When I first started my coaching business over 8 years ago, one of the first things that surprised me was a common theme of people who didn’t want to do the thing they dreamed of because they either weren’t “ready,” or they didn’t have the time or money. They all wanted to have all their ducks in a row before taking a leap of faith.
I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to waste time living their own version of “hell on earth” until they felt ready or had the money or the “time.”
Then it hit me, we as a species tend to wait until the shit starts hitting the fan to do something different.
That’s to say, when the pain of staying the same/staying in the same place/with the wrong person/job, is greater than the pain of taking responsibility and changing yourself/situation, then we will do what it takes.
Sometimes our “hell on earth” is simply all we’ve known, so our nervous system is comfortable in this familiar realm no matter how fucked up and shitty it is.
That’s why we stay in the jobs we hate, the toxic relationships that we know we shouldn’t be in, keep eating the shit food, allowing people to walk all over us, don’t speak our truth, play small, and you get the point.
I’ve been here too many times myself, which is why I’ve taken real brave action; like quitting my 8 year paralegal career, leaving my life in California and moving to Australia, investing heavily in my physical, mental, and spiritual health for example.
If I had waited until I had the money, time, the perfect body, became enlightened, or had all my ducks in a row to do all that I have accomplished up to now (which is a whole fucking lot), I wouldn’t be living in Australia, married with two beautiful children, healed so much and up-leveled my life the way I have.
We act like tomorrow is guaranteed and forget that it truly isn’t promised.
May this spark the fire within and awaken the courageous part of you to take brave action today!
With all the love,
Dayan
